Description

The Makeup Artistry Diploma Course begins by introducing you to the essential tools and brushes of the trade, how to care for them, and when to discard makeup. We’ll also look at the skin – how to care for it, the different types, and how to prepare it for makeup application.

Understanding colour theory is an essential skill for makeup artists. The course explains colour theory and how it applies to makeup artistry and the psychology of colour, lighting and shading.

Using colour theory, you’ll learn how to select and apply the correct concealer, foundation, contouring products, bronzers, blushers and self-tan for each of your clients. You’ll understand how to choose and apply eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara, and how to shape and fill in eyebrows. You’ll also discover how to apply various lip colour formulations and lip liners.

From these foundations, the Makeup Artistry Diploma Course then provides a module for each of the following makeup specialisms, giving you insight and guidance on how to work and apply makeup within each area: bridal and events, photography, fashion and editorial print work, camouflage, and special effects makeup.

The course concludes with a look at how to conduct yourself and succeed within the profession with a look at everything from soft skills and marketing to business management and contract negotiation.

By studying this course, you will:

  • Become familiar with the essential tools and brushes of the trade
  • Know how to prepare the skin for makeup
  • Understand colour theory and its application in makeup artistry
  • Learn how to select the correct face, eye and lip makeup for individual clients
  • Discover how to apply various specialist makeups

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
